#104 - How Microsoft Copilot will change the way you work

Greg Taieb · · 5 min read

Hello,

I hope you are well. A very AI-focused news this week but what do you want it's so huge what's happening now and it's going to have such impacts so quickly that we're just having trouble considering it.

So I'm trying to explain to you what's changing by sharing lots of concrete uses.

  • 🔥 Open AI announces GPT-4
  • 🎨 Midjourney 5 goes even further in realism
  • 🦾Microsoft announces its co-pilot for Office applications
  • 🏹 Arc: the most innovative browser since Chrome
  • 🚗 Tesla's big progress on autonomous driving

🔥 Open AI announces GPT-4

While we are only beginning to realize the impacts of the big bang that is GPT-3, Open AI drives the point home by announcing GPT-4 which is even more powerful and capable of accepting images in instructions.

As a reminder GPT-4 is the “engine” that powers ChatGPT which has been widely talked about in recent months. It is now accessible to people who have subscribed to GPT Plus (the $20/month plan) or via the API through different applications.

Here are some crazy examples made possible thanks to GPT-4:

  • Jackson Greathouse Fall let GPT guide him to win the maximum money with a $100 bet. He does whatever GPT tells him to do as long as it's legal. After 2 days the guy raised $8,000 with investors and ongoing recruitment.
  • Duolingo the famous language learning application becomes even more personalized with Duolingo Max: an AI that offers you personalized support. A real language teacher in your pocket!
  • For my part, I created a multi-player online quiz with a point system…without writing a single line of code 🤯

It is on this point that GPT-4 seems to have made the biggest progress.

🎨 Midjourney 5 goes even further in photo realism

Midjourney V5 which is becoming the benchmark in terms of photo realism and which has finally understood how to make 5-fingered hands 🫠. We're reaching the level where an image generated by Midjourney is inseparable from a real photo, it's just crazy!

If you have trouble seeing how this type of innovation can have concrete impacts you can see how some people are starting to create a website design thanks to Midjourney.

Or even this photo studio online which generates 120 corporate photos of you for $39.

🦾Microsoft announces its copilot for Office applications

Continuing its partnership with OpenAI Microsoft announced this week Copilot its assistant integrated into its Office suite 365.

Thanks to a permanently present assistant you will finally be able to give orders to:

  • PowerPoint: "summarize this presentation in 3 slides"
  • Excel:" analyze this table in 3 bullet points and give me an extrapolation of the data over 3 years"
  • Word: " Produces a 2-page draft of a proposal based on the data from the following documents (one Word and one Excel)
  • Outlook: "send the last minute report proposing actions to each participant"

This named assistant represents the future of work and is already operational as we have seen this journalist from The Verge in an interview with Microsoft CoPilot is currently being tested with around twenty major Microsoft customers before a wider deployment in the coming months.

The next step. is to make all of this available on mobile versions which will allow you to process emails or work on documents without having to enter long texts on a portable screen.

If you want to know more I recommend this very comprehensive (and enthusiastic) article from Numerama.

The launch video is magnificent and it did not fail to provoke a reaction from the teasing minds who point out the difference between the way Microsoft imagines its applications and reality that we live every day.

🏹 Arc: the most innovative browser since Chrome

A few weeks ago we recorded a podcast with Rémi to talk to you about Arc, a new web browser that comes with its share of innovations.

It's not complicated, for me today it's the best browser available... Quite simply.

It must be said that the browser has become a convenience, that we spend most of our time there when we are on a computer and that they all have somewhat the same functionalities.

What differentiates Arc from other browsers?

What The Browser Company offers us, with its Arc browser is precisely about rethinking the way we interact with sites. The idea is to offer a better experience, by reducing noise and bringing more concentration to the user.

For example, you certainly have many tabs open on your current browser, some of which have been open for weeks. On Arc, if you don't save them, it automatically closes them after 12 hours.

Arc also moves the entire navigation experience into a sidebar that is full of practical ideas (Download Center, whiteboards, etc.) while promising a more immersive experience.

Arc is currently only available on Mac and by invitation. The PC and Mac versions are under development.

I'll let you listen to the episode or watch the video below if you want to see it in action.

And if you want to test Arc here are 5 invitations!

Besides, Amazon also seems to be working on its own browser and I really wish them good luck.

🚗 Tesla is making big progress on autonomous driving

We have been seeing videos of Tesla in autonomous driving for years and it is clear that it is each time more impressive.

The latest version of the autopilot currently in beta has been the subject of from a video near the San Francisco Bridge and it's just crazy:

That’s “all” for this week! If you liked it and you haven’t registered yet….
