#81 - ✈️Connected travel, the best of Netflix & round 2.0

Greg Taieb · · 5 min read

Hello,

How are you this week? It smells like terraces and spritzes 🍸here, right?
For this holiday preparation issue you risk having at least 2 problems if you travel: which series to watch on Netflix and how to stay connected abroad.

That's good, it's a (small) part of today's program!

Have a good read and see you at the end of the newsletter for the test of a new feature.

✈️Airalo: the ideal application to stay connected this summer

There is a whole mythology around the need to disconnect in summer. No smartphone, no plan if you go abroad. Paradise.(?)

Yet we're not going to lie to each other, it's sometimes super practical to be able to consult a map or find a nice spot or eat when you have your smartphone in your hand.

And that often involves being connected... far from a hotel wifi terminal.

So now that traffic restrictions are lifted and you can move freely, I have an incredible application to share with you if you want to be connected everywhere in the world. world.

If you have already tried to buy a SIM abroad you know that the experience is often complicated: find a store that sells the SIM, buy it, remove your French SIM, put the new SIM in your smartphone, activate it...

Airalo is an application available on iOS and Android that allows you to buy and install in a few seconds a virtual SIM (e-sim) in addition to your classic SIM in nearly 190 country.

How does it work?

  1. You download the application
  2. You choose the country where you want a SIM
  3. You choose the plan based on the duration and volume of data you need
  4. You buy your SIM and install it in a few clicks

So as soon as you get off the plane you are connected without the risk of out of packages.

Magic !

Most recent smartphones are e-SIM compatible.

I've been using Airalo for several years and it's quite simply the best way to be connected as soon as you leave Europe!

Bonus: if you want to get $3 off your first order, give the following code: TAIEB3922 (that way I also earn $3 😶).

🥇Apple Is TV+ the best streaming service?

It would seem so... if we are to believe the recent study by Self Financial which compares streaming services based on the average IMDB ratings of their catalogs.

Apple's platform thus obtains for 2nd consecutive year the best average with 7.08/10.

A vote necessarily to be taken with a grain of salt given that Apple TV+ is by far the platform with the least content (even if it has doubled in 1 year).

For the rest we learn that Netflix is the platform with the most 4K content and that it contains 2.7 times more good content than good quality content than its most competitive close.

And that can be a problem as the following subject will show us…

📺 What to watch on Netflix and Amazon Prime?

Because yes, that’s THE question of the century, the one we ask ourselves every time we sit in front of our screen to look for a film or series: what to watch?

In fact, the platforms are racing for content and it’s the one that has the most content and especially good content.

And as we saw above, quantity does not necessarily equal quality.
This is where Trim, a small extension for Google Chrome works miracles and will save you a lot of time.

This extension will add some very useful information when you browse your favorite VOD service by displaying for example the IMDB ratings and Rotten Tomatoes which gives you a first glimpse of the quality of the shows offered even if you don't know them.
Even more you can easily filter to only display films that exceed a certain rating (out of 10 on IMDB and out of 100 on RT).

Once the filter is applied the thumbnails of the “bad shows” are obscured so that you only see the good ones programs.

Only works on a computer but it can save you time by then adding the programs to your reading list.

A free, simple and effective app. Everything we like.

🙏Ffaire la manche 2.0

Every time you walk around a big city or take the metro you come across these more or less talented artists (ok not talented at all) who make you turn up the volume on your headphones and look at your feet.

And then sometimes you come across a nugget, a super talented person but the problem is you don't have any cash (or just a €50 note) so you're frustrated at not being able to give something.

Fortunately some ingenious artists have found a solution by installing a QR code which allows a simple scan to give to Lydia.

⌚️The watch for going out light this summer

I'm not a fan of beautiful watches (I have an Apple Watch, that's to say) and yet I wanted to share this marvel with you: The Richard Mile RM UP-01 Ferrari.

At this stage it is goldsmith's work since this watch, produced in only 150 copies, is 1.8mm thick.

It's just crazy. Count the modest sum of $1,888,000.

If you want to know more I invite you to take a look at the superb site created for the occasion.
