🚀10 crazy uses of ChatGPT to test urgently

ChatGPT is the application that is generating more hype in recent weeks and there is no shortage of use cases. With Rémi we shared 10 in the last episode of Encore Un Podcast Tech:

  1. Replace Google
  2. Define a menu and a sports program
  3. Have a personal assistant
  4. Respond to a job offer and prepare for an interview
  5. Write code or find an Excel formula
  6. Write a story
  7. Summarize a text or a book
  8. Travel guide (in fact there is even an application for that)
  9. Create text content
  10. Play

To see all this in pictures, nothing better than watching the podcast video 👇

🔓Comment Netflix is really going to block account sharing

I was telling you about it last year, Netflix is going to seriously tackle the problem of password sharing this year. After some tests carried out in 2022 in Latin America (Chile, Costa Rica and Peru) the streaming giant does not intend to stop there and I will explain to you exactly how it intends to go about it.

Before deploying its strategy of hunting for account sharing, Netflix has generally added 3 key features:

  1. The launch of a cheaper offer with advertising
  2. Account transfer
  3. The possibility of disconnecting remotely a device on which you were connected

Then Netflix introduced the notion of home. A home is a “place” from which all devices can connect to the account (sharing a common wifi network I imagine). You can leave this network for up to 2 weeks/year. So if you use Netflix on your phone but come home regularly, no problem. Netflix will be able to “demarcate” a home based on numerous information (IP, device ID and activity).

If you want to add homes you will have to go to checkout and this is precisely what Netflix is counting on. Basically, if you were in the habit of giving your login details to your family, it will be considered as an additional “home” and you will have to go to checkout, which risks discouraging account sharing.

To finish on this notion of “homes” you are certainly wondering how Netflix will manage the case of users who have several homes (e.g. for a second home).

It is very simple by offering more or fewer “homes” to the account depending on the price of your subscription:

  • A basic plan would have 2 homes
  • A standard plan would have 3 homes
  • A premium plan would have 4 homes

Good all this to say that if you already have a maxi package (the one that allows 4K) you should still be able to water the entourage for a while. On the other hand, if you have the minimum package, it's time to show Uncle Roger how to transfer his account.

🛒Google announces a tool to facilitate inventories

Google Cloud has just released an AI tool to manage the inventories of supermarket shelves. This AI can recognize and analyze products on sale from videos and images provided by store cameras. While it sounds cool, there are still challenges ahead before we can use it on a large scale. Supermarkets are giving feedback to Google Cloud to improve the AI and maybe one day it will be good enough to manage inventories on its own, without needing someone to check the shelves by hand!

☁️ Happy birthday MacBook Air

15 years ago to the day Steve Jobs gave us a product reveal as only he was capable of by unveiling the first MacBook Air.

If you were too young or don't remember it looked like this:

We tend to forget this, but before the Air, laptops were heavy and thick. By releasing this device capable of fitting into an envelope, Apple has redefined expectations in terms of mobility.

I don't know about you but I have a certain nostalgia for these big tech announcements. It's been a long time since we've been so excited about a product.

Will Apple manage to wow us by announcing its next new product: its virtual reality headset?

We could well have the answer within a few months...

And that's it for this week!
