Google Pixel 8: Create perfect memories... even if they never happened!

Why it's important: In a world where photography reigns supreme, the Pixel 8, Google's future star smartphone, promises to create magical moments... even if they never really happened!

A little context first...

Every year Google releases a new smartphone, the Pixel trying to innovate on the photo side by adding AI. So far the recipe has been a success (at least in terms of opinion) because these smartphones are often among the best in photos.

The Pixel 8 has not even been announced as I write these lines and yet one of its key features has already leaked.

Imagine: you miss a photo and the AI comes behind you to correct all the faces.
Rather than lamenting over a failed photo, you can now use the Pixel 8 camera to create a perfect memory.

It also works really well if you're taking a photo on a beach, the weather isn't nice and a guy is with his umbrella in the background.

Stunning, no?

My experience

Actually, the act of doctoring a photo is not new and even smartphones have been doing this for years.

10 years ago, I was using a Nokia which did what I already considered a bit like magic by creating the group photo perfect.

As you know, in a group photo all it takes is for one person to turn their head or close their eyes to ruin your photo.

The Smart Shoot function allowed you to take photos in bursts and allow you to choose the best combination of faces.

The difference is that we relied here on photos that had actually been taken.

But... Is it real?

The big question I ask myself is: is it a good thing to create memories that never happened?

Authenticity vs. Technology
On the one hand, our memories are valuable because they are authentic. They tell our story, our experiences, our failures and our successes. Can we really replace that with a photo generated by an algorithm?

Emotional well-being
On the other hand, if a generated photo can give us happiness, joy or even peace, why deprive ourselves of it? In a world where well-being is king, shouldn't we seize every chance to be happy, even if it's thanks to an illusion?

Social pressure
In the age of social networks, where everyone shares their best moments, it's easy to feel left behind. The Pixel 8 could be a way to fill this void, but at what cost to our self-esteem?

Ethical implications
What if someone used this technology to lie or deceive? There's definitely a blurry line between having fun and manipulating reality.

In conclusion...

The Pixel 8 could redefine what it means to "take a photo." It's a way of reminding us that sometimes, well-being does not always depend on what we experience, but on what we "choose" to remember.

And you, would you be ready to sacrifice authenticity for the sake of perfection?

See you next time, and continue creating your own reality, even if it's with a little technological help!
