You're probably wondering when you read this title if I'm trying to trick you.
Well, no, think again. The world of Esports is about to be turned upside down by a competitor like no other: Microsoft Excel.
Yes, you read that right. The globally recognized spreadsheet is not just a tool for calculating and organizing data, it is also the arena for the upcoming Financial Modeling World Cup (FMWC). This unique event is an annual celebration of Excel whizzes from around the world competing for the prestigious FMWC crown.
This year, the championship is sponsored by Microsoft itself, and the total prize pool is an impressive $10,000. This competition is very serious requiring a high level of mastery of Excel, financial modeling skills, and an ability to solve complex problems under pressure.
The competition is played in several rounds (qualification, quarters, semi-finals and final). The competition is in full swing and is broadcast live on ESPN and YouTube.
The rules of the FMWC are simple. In each round, competitors are presented with a one to five page case study. These case studies are designed to mimic real-world problems and include six to fifteen questions of varying complexity. The more complex the question, the more points to earn.
Here's what it looks like:
Besides, if you want to test your level you can download the test which served as qualification here:

If Excel is not enough for you, know that the FMWC is not the only event of this kind. The Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship covers the entire Office suite, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
It's a dream, isn't it?
